How it works
- Pick your project and size: quilt, runner or pillow, and check the fat quarter count.
- Choose a colorway: Navy (navy and white), Charcoal (charcoal and cream) or Icy (icy blues). Try it on the coloring page.
- Use the shopping list for your size to buy fabric.
- Cut with the cutting chart, then sew squares, rectangles and half-square triangles into 9-inch blocks, following the pressing directions.
- Join four blocks into each 18-inch snowflake, add the 2-inch sashing and finish your project.
Questions
Is there a free snowflake quilt pattern, and what does this one add?
Free options exist, such as a YouTube video for a fat-quarter snowflake that uses 60-degree triangles and diamonds. This pattern uses only squares, rectangles and half-square triangles. It comes as printable PDFs with cutting charts and yardage tables for every size, shopping lists, a coloring page and a troubleshooting page.
Is this pattern fat-quarter friendly, and how many fat quarters does each size need?
Yes. Each 18-inch snowflake is made of four identical 9-inch blocks, all cut from one fat quarter, so you need one fat quarter per snowflake. Fat quarter counts: quilt Baby 6, Throw 12, Twin 15, Queen 25, King 36. Table runner: Short 2, Medium 3, Long 4. Pillow: 1. A shopping list for every size is included.
What skill level is it, and does it need paper piecing, Y-seams or 60-degree rulers?
It is made for confident beginners. You sew squares, rectangles and half-square triangles, and the pieces are large. The pattern does not call for 60-degree cuts or appliqué. Pressing directions are given with the diagrams, and a troubleshooting page covers half-square triangle accuracy and keeping sashing straight.
What sizes are included for the quilt, table runner and pillow?
Quilt: Baby 42 x 62, Throw 62 x 82, Twin 62 x 102, Queen 102 x 102 and King 122 x 122 inches, with 2-inch sashing. Table runner: Short 42 x 22, Medium 62 x 22 and Long 82 x 22 inches. Pillow cover: 22 x 22 inches. Each snowflake is 18 inches, made from 9-inch blocks.
Do I get US Letter and A4 versions, and can I print them at home?
Yes. The ZIP holds 4 PDFs: the quilt (21 pages) and the runner and pillow (10 pages), each in US Letter and A4. The diagrams are large and high-contrast, so they are made to print at home, and you can print only the pages you need.
How do I download the files after purchase?
It is an instant digital download. After checkout, download the single ZIP file, open it, and choose the US Letter or A4 version of each PDF. Nothing is mailed to you.
Can I sell quilts I make from this pattern?
Yes. You may sell finished quilts, runners and pillows you make from this pattern. Please don't share, copy or resell the pattern files themselves.
Why is the pillow cover 22 x 22 for a 24-inch form?
The pillow cover is 22 x 22 inches with an envelope back and is made for a 24-inch pillow form. A cover slightly smaller than the form is a common way to get a fuller look. It holds one snowflake.
What is your refund policy for digital patterns?
If something is wrong with your file, email hello@downloadumbrella.com within 30 days and we will send a working copy or a refund. Other sales are final.
