How it works

  1. Pick your size, Baby to King, and check its finished dimensions.
  2. Use the fabric pages and shopping list to buy fat quarters or the 10-print yardage option, plus cream and a little dark brown.
  3. Try Harvest, Woodland or Cider on the coloring page, then follow the numbered color map.
  4. Cut with the chart for your size.
  5. Make the units, then the 12-inch leaf blocks.
  6. Set the blocks in straight rows with 1½-inch cream sashing, then finish.

Questions

Is this an easy fall quilt pattern?

It is made for confident beginners. The leaves are built from 3-inch units and set in straight rows with 1½-inch cream sashing. Half-square triangles, which form the pointed leaf tips, are the only technique added, and the pattern shows each unit step by step.

Will the maple leaf tips come out pointed and accurate?

The pattern has diagrams for the half-square-triangle leaf tips and a troubleshooting page for half-square triangles and block sizing, so you can check your units before you build the blocks.

Is there a free autumn quilt pattern? Why pay for this one?

Free fall patterns exist. For $8.99 this one puts five sizes with exact dimensions, fat quarter counts, a 10-print yardage option, numbered color maps for every size, a tools and terms page, a checklist, troubleshooting and a shopping list for every size into a large-type PDF, in US Letter and A4.

What sizes does the pattern include, and how big is each?

Baby 42″ × 55½″, Throw 55½″ × 69″, Twin 69″ × 96″, Queen 96″ × 109½″ and King 109½″ × 109½″. These are finished quilt sizes.

How many fat quarters do I need for each size?

Baby 6, Throw 10, Twin 18, Queen 28 and King 32. Each leaf is one print, and one fat quarter makes up to 2 leaves (the count is the number of leaves ÷ 2, rounded up). Cream background fabric and a little dark brown for the stems are separate.

Can I use yardage instead of fat quarters?

Yes. The pattern includes a 10-print yardage option, so you can use yardage if you prefer.

How much cream background fabric do I need?

You need a separate cream fabric for the tip triangles, corner squares, stem units and sashing. The fabric pages and the shopping list for each size give the amounts. A small amount of dark brown fabric is used for the stems.

Is this OK if I've never made half-square triangles?

Yes, if you are a confident beginner. The pattern shows how to make them, and a tools and terms page and a troubleshooting page are included.

Will it print on US Letter or A4, and is the type large enough?

Both. The 19-page PDF comes in US Letter and A4 versions, with large, high-contrast type and a clickable contents page. You can print the key pages (fabric, cutting, color map) so each prints on its own, or read it on a phone or tablet.
