Questions

What sizes does the pattern make, and how big are they?

Five sizes: Baby 40½″×49½″, Throw 58½″×67½″, Twin 67½″×94½″, Queen 90″×99″ and King 103½″×103½″.

How many fat quarters do I need?

Baby 9, Throw 18, Twin 29, Queen 42 and King 50. Fat quarters are 18″ × 21″, and each one gives 12 five-inch squares: enough for 2 pluses with 2 squares to spare. Prefer yardage? Every size also lists 10 prints by the yard.

Why isn't the count just the number of squares divided by 12?

Each plus uses 5 squares of one print, and the pluses that run off the edges of the quilt still need their own print. So each fat quarter makes 2 pluses with 2 squares to spare, which is why the counts are a little higher than squares ÷ 12. Every count is checked against the color maps.

Can I use yardage? How much backing, batting and binding do I need?

Yes. Every size has a yardage option: 10 prints (½ to 1⅛ yd each, for 42″-wide quilting cotton). Backing, binding and batting amounts are listed for every size too.

Is this really suitable for a beginner?

Yes. The skill level is Beginner. The quilt uses only 5-inch squares (4½″ finished) sewn in straight rows, with no curves or complex blocks, and ¼″ seams throughout. A tools and terms page explains the equipment and the words used.

Why pay $8.99 when free plus quilt patterns exist?

Free patterns can be a good start. This one is built to be complete: fat quarter counts and a yardage option for five sizes, backing, binding and batting amounts, a numbered color map for every size, a tools and terms page, a coloring page, a checklist and shopping lists, all in large, high-contrast print.

Can I choose my own colors?

Yes. Every size has a numbered color map showing where each square goes, and a coloring page lets you try your own palette before you cut. Three colorway ideas are included: Sunday market, Low tide and Rose garden.

How many pages is it, and how do I print or read it?

17 pages, in US Letter and A4 versions. Each size has its own color map page, so you can print just the pages you need, and the clickable contents page takes you straight to your size on a phone or tablet. Large, high-contrast type throughout.
